Althéa Laurin holds her half

September 4, 2022

Our Olympic medalist seems to be on the rise. After having beaten the German Yanna Schneider in the eighth round, with the malice of two small points at the very end of the first round before winning the second without panicking (10-4), Althéa Laurin raised her level again against the Kazakh Cansel Deniz. An experienced fighter (31 years old), whom she had faced in Turkey two years ago and who remains on a final at the Asian championships. The fight? A round perfectly launched on a leg attack, for a score consolidated on the first two minutes (6-2) before continuing on the same basis, under the threat of the right leg of Cansel Deniz who touched once. This did not shake the confidence of the Frenchwoman who did not leave her tactical scheme, especially as some points awarded to her opponent were finally invalidated by the video replay. 6-2, 8-5 for a clear victory in two rounds and heading for the semi-finals for a medal. Why not in gold, because Althea seems to have it in her legs. For that, she will have to beat the Brazilian Gabriele Siqueira, on fire, who eliminated Marie-Paule Blé this morning and followed up with intense victories over the living legend British Bianca Walkden, double Olympic medallist and four-time world champion, and then the German Lorena Brandl, triple European medallist. The match is scheduled for around 3:30 pm.

Unfortunately, we will not find Omar El Yazidi, beaten the 2016 Olympic champion Cheick Cissé. In contact in the first round by using his physical density and careful not to expose himself, the Frenchman suffered more in the second round. Trailing 0-7, he did not give up the fight, went back up, but had to lose, 8-3.
