GENERATION CLASH IN MONTPELLIER
In the absence of the athletes from the Olympic Pole, who are in Turkey preparing for the Games, the FDI Stadium in the Hérault capital is likely to see the next generation push the more experienced athletes to the limit this weekend. The 2024-2028 Olympiad begins now!
Come to think of it, the sixteen athletes crowned champions of France on February 17 and 18 will be the ones to attack the race towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games as national leaders, alongside the Olympians who are currently devoting body and soul to shining this summer in Paris."Even if everyone is aware of what can happen in the space of four years, it's still a good idea to show up whenever the opportunity arises.analyses DTN Patrick Rosso. These French senior championships are obviously one of them, as they are the meeting place for all those who aspire to go one step further in their quest for performance. We may know all the participants, but we're always on the lookout for surprises. There are also the members of our various high-level structures whose names we are waiting to hear.

Fourteen of the sixteen titleholders will be among the three hundred and thirty or so registered for the event, with Estelle Vander-Zwalm (-67kg) and Lisa Bernabé (+73kg) the only Mulhouse crowned champions to miss out! Note that Ismaël Bouzid and Aurélie Buttarelli, crowned respectively in -80kg and -46kg a year ago, will this time be competing in the top category, for potential boss battles against the reigning Steve Kinsansi and Mah Fofana - in what would be a replay of the final of the French U23 championships at the end of January in Lyon. Like La Strasbourgeoise, there will be fifteen winners of the national U21 event to attempt the double in the big leagues. Starting with those who have already tasted the senior podium, such as Fofana, Estelle Causse (-57kg), Emna Hamadache (+73kg), Mathis Alesio-Capolini (-54kg), Herwan Onanga (-63kg) and Lawrence Félicité (-80kg). Not forgetting European Cadet 2023 champion Oumaïma Allassak (-46kg), who also won gold in the U23 category a few weeks ago, European Junior 2023 champions Eliot Guardiola (-54kg) and Tama Taputu (-87kg), and U23 continental bronze medallist Mohamed Mendy (-80kg), who will also be keeping a close eye on the competition. It's very interesting to see these talented youngsters coming to compete against their elders," continues Patrick Rosso. This can only be beneficial for the level of this competition, which we'd like to raise even higher so that it's as close as possible to international standards. The gap has been narrowing for several seasons now, thanks in particular to the intermingling of juniors, U23s and seniors, which is pushing everyone to the top.
All this will be welcomed in excellent conditions by the local 3MTKD club, the largest in France in terms of membership. "It's extremely comfortable for federal management to be able to count on the dynamism of this exemplary structure, whose organizational capacity we know perfectly well." Everything seems to be in place for a wonderful February weekend!
