Regional Charter of the Values of the Republic

Let's preserve and defend the values enshrined in the founding texts of the Republic!
August 28, 2023

The Île-de-France region, which is hosting the World Taekwondo Grand Prix for the second year, is committed to preserving and defending the values enshrined in the founding texts of the Republic: the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen of 1789, the Preamble to the Constitution of October 27, 1946 and the Constitution of October 4, 1958, as well as the principle of secularism guaranteed by the law of December 9, 1905. A commitment shared by the FFTDA!

The Regional Charter of the Values of the Republic and Secularism is the expression of this commitment, and is binding on all FFTDA staff, users and partners where the French Republic is regularly provoked and/or attacked with the aim of calling into question the values on which it is founded. France is an indivisible, secular, democratic and social Republic.

It ensures the equality of all citizens before the law, throughout its territory, without distinction of origin, sex, sexual orientation or identity, or religion. It guarantees equal rights for men and women. Secularism is based on three principles: freedom of conscience and worship, the separation of public institutions and religious organizations, and the equality of all before the law, whatever their beliefs or convictions.

The values of the Republic enable the exercise of citizenship. They imply the rejection of all violence and discrimination, guarantee the equality of men and women, and are based on a culture of respect and understanding of others. Respect for these principles means that no religious principle is superior to them. No one may use political, philosophical or religious convictions as an excuse for not applying the principles and values of the Republic. No one may be disturbed for his or her opinions, provided that their expression does not disturb public order.

Freedom of religion or belief necessarily encounters limits linked to respect for religious pluralism and the freedom not to believe, the protection of the rights and freedoms of others, and the maintenance of public order, civil peace and community life. While the law imposes the principle of neutrality on public services, public service users and private players alike must not hinder the freedom and free will of others, in the interests of the general interest.

The Region has decided to promote and ensure respect for these principles in all its areas of intervention, while guaranteeing everyone freedom of membership and access to services, non-discrimination, non-tolerance of incivilities, refusal of provocation, violence and incitement to hatred.
