Oury Stzantman: "Remain in this logic of construction
"It's a satisfying result, but also a little frustrating. We lost some games that we could have won, so there are inevitably some regrets. There is always the desire to do better but we will stay on the positive since this competition was of a very high level. It was a first in Paris for us, which gave us a taste of what awaits us for the Games in 2024. It was a prestigious event and, at the same time, stressful. We never want to disappoint, especially at home. This is perhaps one of the reasons why we did not have a better record today. With these bronze medals, we are at our level, with our athletes who are technically very strong, like Bopha, although he is gradually caught up with age. He has to give more and more efforts to stay at the top level, while he is always more challenged by the international competition since the Games. As for Djelika and Zakia, who are still very young, they are still in the process of blossoming. They only ask to progress and, with them, it is necessary to remain in this effort of improvement and this logic of construction at each exit.
For the team, these two medals today are a guarantee of success, but they must not prevent us from learning from our mistakes. This will require new questions, a reset on what has been done in order to get back to work and prepare as best as possible for Manchester, which is coming soon. There is optimism, although tinged with realism, because we can't go forward with complacency. As an African proverb says, "it takes a village to raise a child". For a champion, it's the same thing: we need a lot of good energy around him, with a staff, a medical team, training partners, resource people.... We also need synergy between the athletes so that each one is inspired by the others, and this is the price that the mayonnaise will take and that we will grow in power."
